Voter Registration Book, Nottawa Township, 1919 through 1927
1919 was the first year that women were able to register to vote in local and state elections in the State of Michigan.
By a 35,000 vote margin male voters approved a State of Michigan Constitutional Amendment that they had previously
rejected in 1875, 1912, and 1913.   In 1875, women were granted the right to vote in "school elections" in their local
townships. On August 26th, 1920 the 19th Amendment to the Constitution took effect nation wide.
Michigan was the second state to ratify the amendment, on June 10, 1920.
