Mr. Hahn was born August 12, 1833, in Wurtenburg, Germany.
Came to Michigan in the early days, and located on his present farm. Married Mary Wolf, January 11, 1862. She was born in Hesse, Germany, December 4, 1843, and came to
Michigan in childhood. They have
two children: Mary, born May 23, 1863; William, born November 1, 1866.
William Hahn lives on his father farm, he married Christie Bauer,
February 5, 1891. They have three
children, Mabel, born April 16, 1893; Elmer, born April 5, 1896; Harold, born
August 16, 1899.
HAYS,
AUSTIN S.
Mr. Hays was born October 16, 1864, in Tuscola County, Michigan.
Married Emma Cook, April 20, 1892. She
was born September 12, 1862, in Hastings County, Ontario. They have two children, Vera M., born July 20, 1893; Vernor,
born June 2, 1898.
IRION, JOHN G.
Son of Andrew and Anna Irion, born August 12, 1852, in Tiffin, Ohio.
Came to Michigan with his parents in 1854.
Married Lydia Smith, April 24, 1884.
She was born November 8, 1852, in Sebawing, Michigan.
They have three children, Carrie K., born April 21, 1886; Martha A., born
August 17, 1887; Emma M., born December 5, 1890.
MESSENGER, W. L.
Mr. Messenger was born May 10, 1873, in Eaton County, Michigan.
Married Mabel Harrington, May 20, 1893.
She was born October 9, 1875, in Calhoun County, Michigan.
They have four children, Elwin, was born June 10, 1894; Donald, born
October 10, 1895; Ira A., born December 2, 1897; Paul, born April 24, 1899.
MUNRO, ROBERT
Mr. Munro was born September 23, 1842, in Canada.
Came to Saginaw, Michigan, in 1858, and engaged in draying and transfer
work for three years. He then
located in Columbia Township, and took up three hundred acres of government
land. After this he was engaged in the meat business in Unionville
for seven years. He sold out and
moved on to his farm in Columbia Township, where he has lived twenty years.
Married Johanna Ellis. They
have five children, Charley, born March 28, 1871; Burney, born September 15,
1873; Jennie, born October 13, 1875; William, born April 10, 1878; Evalefia,
born June 16, 1880. William , married Patricia M. Dunn, of Unionvill September
19, 1900.
MCCARTHY, THOMAS
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McCarthy, of Cork County, Ireland.
Came to America, in 1850, and located in Hamilton Township, Ontario,
remained there ten years, then worked in a sawmill in Huron, Ontario, for
twenty-three years. Came to
Columbia Township, Michigan, in 1882. Married
Margaret Dillon, November 12, 1876, in Logan Township, Huron County, Canada. She was born November 16, 1856, in Columbia Township.
They have eight children, Edward, born September 1877; Michael J., born
March 27, 1878; Daniel, born July 22, 1881; Mary E., born March 6, 1889; Katie
T., born July 17, 1894.
MADDAUGH, STEPHEN
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Maddaugh, born November 15, 1844, in Wentworth
County, Ontario. Came to Bay City, Michigan, and was engaged in the lumber
business for seven years. He then
located on his present farm. Married
Anna McClure, of Bay City, July 3, 1873. They
have five children, Kittie, born June 3, 1874; Lizzie, born January 1, 1877;
Nettie, born October 9, 1878; Mary, born June 16, 1883; Carrie, born April 20,
1887.
RUSSELL, J.T.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Russell, born June 21, 1854, in Middletown,
Delaware County, N.Y. In 1878, Mr.
Russell came to Columbia Township, Tuscola County, Michigan.
Married Hettie A Staples, June 24, 1880. She was born January 26, 1859, in Lansing, Michigan.
They have three children, Frank O., born June 3, 1886; Boyd H., born May
6, 1892; Ida M. born July 11, 1900. Mr.
Russell is engaged in general farming, and has been connected with Township
Offices, and with the Board of Review.
RICE, GEORGE
Mr. Rice was born April 6, 1834, in town of Hanberobrann Cojnty of
Schorandorf, Wurteinburg, Germany. Married
Catherine Schmidt, July 3, 1861, at Niagara Falls, N.Y.
She was born in Lorain, Germany. Mr.
Rice worked at the bakery trade seven years; he was employed by the U.S.
Government six months. He then went
to Oil City, Pa., and worked for the Philadelphia Coal Company for two years.
Then Mr. Rice went into the grocery business in Oil City, where he
remained four years; he then located in Clarion, and engaged in the same
business for four years more but lost heavily during the panic.
In 1880 Mr. Rice moved to his farm in Columbia Township, where he has
been engaged in farming. Mr. and
Mrs. Rice have seven children, Kate, born February 14, 1864; John born March 4,
1865; Mary P., born August 24, 1869; George A., born May 29, 1871; Joseph, born
May 28, 1873; Charles, born May 28, 1875.
