Saginaw County Michigan

Saginaw Volunteers Needed

Volunteer to index information or do lookups!

Thank you to those who are working on files and those who have donated files to this site.  You are helping make the Saginaw site one of the best to surf for records on the web.

Note:  The records from the last coordinator's Saginaw MIGenWeb site are here.  They will be integrated with in the site over time.

This site is dependant on volunteers for records.  We welcome any files that you may have to put online with a citation that it came from you and copyright to you.  We will take care of getting it on the web for you.

If you own or have access to sources for Saginaw County (birth records, marriage records, tax records, cemetery records, biographical information, county or city histories, etc.) volunteer to index or type up information to make available to other persons interested in the people and history of Saginaw County.  You may also volunteer to do lookups in those resources for people making requests.

Some specific examples of file:

1877 Plat Maps - Carolyn has scanned the images to put online and we have agreed to serve up a database of the index to all the names so that they are searchable and linked to the proper map on Carolyn's site.  Typists are needed for all the letters of the alphabet.  There is a list of landowners provided with the map that Carolyn is getting scanned.  It is a big project so we need help, to see it get online.

Vitals Indexes - Early vital records are available on microfilm from LDS Family History Libraries and some libraries.  If you have access to these films, the names could be indexed to be put online.  Any amount you can do is fine.

Census transcriptions or Census Indexes - I am working on the 1840 Federal Census at present to put online.  It is small and I can handle this easily, but the other years that are not online could be either indexed or fully transcribed.  Either would be great.  Mortality lists, and tax lists could also be done. The 1860, 1890 Vets, 1900, 1920 & 1920 Federal censuses still need to be done.

Cemetery Photographing and Indexing - Carolyn has undertaken the task of photographing the cemeteries in Saginaw County and needs help.  If you have some time to photograph, please contact Carolyn.  You can also volunteer to do lookups for people in cemeteries or do transcriptions of the stones.

Directories - Old directories for Saginaw beginning in 1883 are available on film through LDS or the library in book form.  Indexes could be transcribed.

Biographies - I will be getting a place to submit these to the site one by one if you have any, along with obituaries.

Old school yearbooks.  The names and photos can be added to the site.  We are working out an interface to serve these in the future that will be searchable by name and linked to the photo.  If you have an old one onhand that we can scan and use to do this please consider letting us borrow it, if you don't want to do the scanning.

Many items are available that are not listed above.  If you have a source that you can donate or have something transcribed you can donate please contact me at:
